Biotrin has just added several new products to its range of Molecular controls which  it launched earlier this year.  The controls, manufactured by Vircell and distributed by Biotrin, are marketed and sold to all laboratories in Ireland who are currently testing samples by molecular techniques, such as PCR.   

The four new products added to their already extensive list are :  

•       Papillomavirus Type 16 (Ca Ski cells) DNA control 
•       Papillomavirus Type 18 (He La cells) DNA control 
•       West Nile Virus RNA control
•       Neisseria Meningitidis Serogroup B DNA control

Following demand by customers for quantitative reporting of results, three of their existing controls can now be measured quantitatively allowing technicians to have more confidence in the control of the viral nucleic acid quantification.   The new quantitative controls are for Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and Legionella Pneumophila, with HSV 1 /2 and HHV6 to follow shortly afterwards.
