Biotrin are pleased to announce the launch of a new multi-test ELISA kit for the detection of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV). This new product, manufactured by Vircell, includes reagents for the simultaneous detection of VCA IgG, EBNA IgG and VCA IgM antibodies. The kit features a microtitre plate coated with specific purified antigens for each protein and has colour coded wells to allow easy, visual identification for the technician
No sample pre-dilution is required and all reagents are supplied in a ready to use liquid format. Other important features include individual break apart wells, coupled with validated protocols for most of the mainstream automated ELISA instruments. EBV is a member of the herpesviridae family and as with all herpesviruses, it establishes lifelong persistent infections that can undergo periodic reactivation, particularly if an individual is immuno-compromised.
EBV is normally contracted during childhood, often asymptomatically and it is estimated as many as 90% of adults can be seropositive for the virus. The virus is associated with a number of clinical outcomes, such as Infectious Mononucleosis or ‘glandular fever’, particularly during adolescence. In adults it also plays a role in the development of other diseases, such as Burkitt’s lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and other lymphoprofliferative diseases. This product is available for sale in Ireland only. For more details on this and other products from Biotrin please contact Elaine.cameron@biotrin.ie or t: 01 283 1166
